Description

DotIPA is a dedicated macOS application that analyzes iOS app builds for size growth, asset duplication, and the presence of unwanted or sensitive files. It enables developers to inspect the components of their .ipa files, visualize structure, and track changes over time without sending any data off-device.

By leveraging Xcode tools, DotIPA helps users optimize app size, detect bundled issues early, and ensure compliance ahead of App Store submission. The solution is designed to run completely locally for enhanced privacy and seamless integration into the iOS development workflow.

Key Features

  • App Size Tracking: View app size growth and changes over time
  • Duplication Detection: Spot duplicate bundles, assets, and files by file hash
  • Visual App Structure: Visualize bundle and framework makeup within .ipa files
  • Sensitive File Identification: Catch unwanted or sensitive files before shipping
  • Xcode Version Detection: Identify Xcode versions used for each build
  • Local Analysis: Runs entirely on your macOS machine with no uploads or data sent

Use Cases

  • Monitor iOS app build size changes before release
  • Identify and remove duplicate files or large assets in .ipa builds
  • Detect and eliminate sensitive or unwanted files prior to App Store submission
  • Review app structure to ensure optimal bundle and module organization
  • Track size trends across different app versions or builds

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you measure app size?

DotIPA measures the approximate size on disk of your build, equivalent to what you would see in Finder. This may differ from the size users see in the App Store, which can be device and OS specific.

What are your system requirements?

DotIPA requires macOS 14 (Sonoma) and Xcode's Developer Tools to decompose and analyze builds.

How do you measure duplication?

Duplication is measured by file hash using assetutil, a command line utility provided by Apple in Xcode Developer Tools. This allows decomposition of asset catalogs for analysis.

Do you send my builds somewhere?

DotIPA runs entirely on your macOS machine and does not store or upload your ipa builds or related data. The tool does not operate any servers.
